Although this is about a card game, it is more of a business investment situation of a particular kind. And then again, it is not really about “investing” which implies anyone with money could do it. Also, I think this question does not fit into the category of Games & Recreation because it is not yet a game–it deals with how to take a game from the idea stage into production and delivery stages. Therefore it deals with how to carry out this business proposition.

I want to know how to find a game developer who is able to consider buying a card game. The game has three versions: One is solitaire and two are two-handed. The game involves luck & skill with applying logic & the process of elimination. All versions are proven successful when played with real cards. And all versions should be easily adaptable to being computerized–and when that happens, it should be extremely popular. It is 99.999% guaranteed not to have been patented before because I invented it myself.

My family invented a few games years back, and always found a brick wall when we tried to find someone to take them over and market them. These were fully completed. I suspect that a game in the development stage, as you describe yours, will be even more difficult to sell.

I’m not trying to discourage you, but here’s the difficulty. You probably aren’t going to get outside funding for your proposal at all. So, if you’re convinced that this can become a reality, you’ll need to find a way to fund it all yourself, or bring family and friends alongside you. Either way, it’s a lot of risk to take, and will still be extremely difficult to market, because the big companies have most of the toy and game shelves locked up.

If you’re going to do it, you’ve got a big challenge ahead of you, and you’ll need to spend considerable time on the business plan, just to evaluate if you can realistically make it profitable.

There are lots of good ideas out there, but making one into reality is a whole additional challenge. Great inventions or great products or great games aren’t enough. You’ve got to be a great businessman too.

I read about systems for counting cards and how each number is given a value. But if you count the cards and you get “plus seven” or “negative two” what does that mean? In what system of card counting is a high count good or a low count bad?

I suggest that you go back and re-read the systems.

Most of them attach a positive number for good cards and a negative for bad cards. So you keep a running track in your head by adding or subtracting a number depending on what cards come out of the shoe.

But as to what the number ultimately means, that depends entirely on the system you are using. Some are far more complex than others.
